Texans already face some of the harshest abortion bans in the country, and SB 6 would make it even harder to get care. Abortion pills are safe, effective, and often the only option for people in rural areas. Taking them away isn’t just unnecessary — it’s dangerous and cruel.

The same medications SB 6 targets are also used to treat miscarriages and ectopic pregnancies. This bill will scare doctors and pharmacists from providing care, creating life-threatening delays for patients who need it.

SB 6 even gives abusive ex-partners the power to sue friends, family, or anyone who helps someone get abortion pills — up to six years later. And it extends Texas law beyond our borders, allowing lawsuits against people in other states, even where abortion is legal, while undermining those states’ “shield laws.”

Rather than tackling urgent issues like the maternal health crisis, flood relief, or restoring funding to critical programs, lawmakers are wasting time in a special session to push this extremist, dumpster-dive policy. Amarillo — one of the most conservative places in Texas — voted down a similar ban by nearly 20 points. Texans want healthcare, not more government intrusion.

I’m asking you to listen to your constituents and reject SB 6. Texans deserve better.
